Rock Band 3 Fender Stratocaster Guitar Priced, Dated

The Squier will run you a steep $280, but then again, it is a real guitar.
Rock Band 3 is on store shelves now, but it’ll still be a few months before one of its most impressive features is available to all would be-rockers out there: Fender has announced that their Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster guitar, which is an actual six-string musical instrument that can also be used with the game, will be released on March 1, 2011, and cost $279.99.

Pricey, you say? Yes it is, but once gain, it is an actual electric guitar, which doesn’t just work in Rock Band 3 but can also be plugged into any amp for some jamming — so really, $279.99 is relatively pretty reasonable. Of course, for Rock Band 3 players the main draw is to use the guitar in the Pro Mode, which uses technology built into the guitar’s neck to read your hand placement on the frets to teach you all the notes for every song in the game (as well as more basic guitar tutorials like learning scales and chordes).

Also, in case that price wasn’t prohibitive enough for those who may not be that serious about learning to play guitar with Rock Band 3, keep in mind you’ll also have to buy the Mad Catz MIDI adaptor to plug the guitar into an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, and that’ll run you another $39.99.
